The air fryer ham and cheese toastie / croque is the new easier way to make a well established favourite. Did you know the word “croque” is French for “crunch”, and this tasty snack certainly delivers the crunch.
Let’s face it, the ham and cheese toastie has been a staple for a lunchtime menu since…. well forever.
A favourite that has been learnt within the student halls of residence, through to graduation and beyond. Could it be that the traditional grill or sandwich press has been replaced by the air fryer!
You can make your air fryer ham and cheese toastie / croque as a 2 or 3 layer masterpiece, it’s very easy, just remember the top layer is different to the lower one(s).
For the white sauce, you can make your own, or you can do what the rest of us do and use a shop bought béchamel sauce (Dolmio makes a good one).
Seriously there are lots of white sauce or béchamel recipes online, but for a toastie, let’s just keep it simple and use a jar of béchamel sauce.

How to make a Air Fryer Ham and Cheese Toastie / Croque
STEP 1
Spread the béchamel sauce over the slices of bread as if you were buttering them.
STEP 2
Add your ham and grated cheese to two slices of bread, but don’t add ham to the intended top slice.
STEP 3
Put the top slice on, add the béchamel and grated cheese
STEP 4
Add sliced tomato and pepper if you wish
STEP 5
Put the sandwich into your air fryer for 10 mins at 190c
